02.04.2009.
First off, I apologize for not been prompt with the site update. I unfortunately got affected by the 'leave your site update till tommorow' virus. Thankfully, I have recovered from it and I look forward to getting prompt with the updates for the rest of the year.I appreciate your been patient.

I got to know of Artist Hazel Dooney (image above) through Hugh Macleod's blog and it didn't take long for me to be captured by her sincere and emotive visual and written work (Hazel knows how to keep things real). Been an artist myself, I was particulary drawn to her essay titled Life Study so I just had to ask for the permission to publish the essay here and thankfully she granted the request.

The essay chronicles Hazel's journey in life through art and some of the decisions she has made along the way. Among other things, the essay makes room for the relevance of discovering yourself as an Artist and the importance of merging skill plus message to produce art that is both personal and communicative. It is an incisive and inspiring essay that makes for a worthwhile read. The essay Life Study can be read on this site at the resource page.

To view more of Hazel's work, visit her site www.hazeldooney.com and her blog www.hazeldooney.blogspot.com

seekproject splash image

I took a trip back in time and in the process stumbled upon the first splash image(shown above) I created for The SeekProject. The image pushed forward nostalgic memories so I decided to reuse it as the first splash image for the site this year. I created the image at the beginnings of the swirl inspired, art noveau driven, decorative vector movement in early 2006. The year on in the image represents when the SeekProject logo was created.

Murtala Muhammed Foundation logo

Early 2007, The Murtala Muhammed Foundation put out a logo design competiotion advert for the foundation, I decided to send an entry in. Fast forward to February 2009, I got an email from the foundation that said though my logo entry was not shortlisted for use the judges however, agreed unanimously that my entry was creative and such would be given a special recognition award(interesting). It feels good when one gets recognition for work done and I thank the foundation for initaiting the project, it was intellectually stimulating and fun for me.

Much thanks to Mr Olakunle Smith for bringing the book "Branding from start to finish" by Monosite my way. My entry for the competition can be seen here.

Spindly gang

The Spindly gang(image above) is a character set I am developing for use in my work. Details can be seen here. Be prepared to encounter names like Prophetic Notra and Bathing Aarghss etc.

10.12.2008. How have you been? As always, It feels good to be back on this page. I have gotten all the departments in my work section updated. Feel free to check the pages out.

Patrick Branigan of Four Fifths Design featured The SeekProject on his site. Patrick's site covers the best in design from both emerging and established designers. Four Fifths Design is a go to place if you desire to see fresh, innovative design. His site is definitely worth visiting and bookmarking. The Seek Project feature can be accessed here.

samsung camera pack

I recently got a new digital camera. The one before this, served my photography needs from 2004- 2008. Truly, it lived a purposeful life and I guess it should be on its way to digital heaven.

I got signed up for an entrepreneurship course (Creative Lives)The course is sponsored by the British council in collaboration with the Lagos Business School. The aim is to equip creative persons with requisite business, legal and sector related skills. I have also met some really interesting and passionate people. Will get some pictures up soon. The first phase of the course runs intermittently November to March 2009. Thank you B.C, L.B.S.

graffiti workshop

Late October down to the first week of November, Chukwuma and I had the privilege of facilitating a British Council/ African Artists Foundation sponsored Graffiti workshop tagged "Lagos on my mind" . We worked with other brilliant, emerging artists each with varying levels of skill. It was fun. We had the time, space and materials to get three locations painted in the Lagos area( Ikoyi, Bariga and Victoria Island). Thank you Ayo for that call. Some pictures can be seen at the mural page.

We even got a music track done for the project. You can download the track at the downloads page. fun! fun! fun!

I came across Illustrator Polyp's work through Alex Kjerulf's blog and I got endeared to it immediately. Polyp uses his strong illustrative voice to comment on global issues. His work is satirical, direct and most of all thought provoking.

polyp rat race

His work (above) goes well with Lilly Tomlin's quote: "the problem with the rat race is even if you win, you are still a rat". The work highlights the futility inherent in subscribing to being part of the rat race, the consumerist culture. Living with a high sense of purpose that serves to benefit oneself and others in positive ways outweighs living for the cash, consuming everything in sight (you get the picture, right?).

Interestingly, according to Polyp, the rat race cartoon was made into an animation by a FOEI(friends of the earth) volunteer from Nigeria (Jomo Akpoduado). The animation can be viewed at www.foei.org/livemore

To see his work in its entirety visit www.polyp.org.uk. Thank you Polyp for granting the feature request.

Chukwuma has moved out of the Seekproject to heavier things on the positive design tip. He has got some solo projects under his belt. I wish him all the best in his future endeavours. Some of his work can be seen here.

Ebun Olatoye was at this year's London Design Festival. She's has got images and interviews up at her blog. Pay her a visit.

I have to be out of triple W universe right about now. Thank you for the time. Feel free to send out an email to me if you just want to say hi, pass a comment or get some work done. Enjoy all that today has to offer. Karo

29.08.2008. How are you all doing?. I decided to quit my day job to focus on the Seek Project. I know it will be challenging but I am warmed up for this. This is what I want to do. I just want to thank everyone who has stayed with us, dropped comments and given advice.

cloudy highway

I recently created a wallpaper(image above) for the FWA(favourite websites awards). Its called the Cloudy Highway and it works like a recently established but uninhabited geometric highway in a fantasyland. Be the first to get on the Highway in full view by downloading the paper through the link shown below:

www.thefwa.com/?app=wallpapers&id=279.

I also have work up at the print and illustration department. Feel free to navigate this site. Thank you and have a nice day.

One more thing, I didn't design the shoe on the splash page. It just served as a useful tool for photography.

24.06.2008. I got shortlisted for the Aresuva (African Regional Summit and Exhibition on Visual Arts) logo design competition. The competition was organised by the National Gallery of Art, Nigeria March of this year. Out of 300 entries, my entry made it to the shortlist of nine. I didn"t win the competition though but, I am grateful for the visibility this has given me. Once again it goes to show people are watching.

Congratulations to the winners. My entry and a detailed rationale outlining the logo design strategy and process can be viewed as always at the identity page. Let me know what you think of it. Thanks.

16.06.2008. It feels good as always to be back on the web! Hope you all are doing good?. We decided to start a blog to augment the seekproject website. It will feature everything- personal stuff, my work process, art and design stuff and non art and design stuff. Its up at www.theseekproject.wordpress.com. Let me know what you think of the blog.

I got the artist of the year award at this year's Future Award ceremony. Awesome event!. i am grateful God has made time, place and people converge over the years to aid our artisitc growth and development. I am looking forward to doing better work this year.

This is the first update for the year and I have got work in most of the departments. I am really interested in doing lots of work in all of the departments represented, most especially the footwear, apparel and illustration departments.

Leonardo baptista

Leonardo Baptista Lopes, fellow "Corofloter" and friend created this art piece(image above) after been inspired by my( karo Akpokiere) work. Leonardo is the kind of guy that makes you see why you should never stop creating irrespective of what situation you find yourself in. Thank you Leonardo. I like is use of colour and the distinct features the character has. This piece is "streetsy" and fun in a "kick, push" kind of way. More of Leonardo's work can be viewed by following the link below:

http://www.coroflot.com/public/individual_details.asp?individual_id=86980

The download section has gotten another member. The image was an illustration for Threadless but, it didnt get enough votes to make it to printland. Since I still have the rights to it, I feel giving it up won't be a bad idea. The file is available for download at the downloads page.

Enjoy browing the site. Thank you.

14.12.2007. How have you all been?, this year has been good for us and I am immensely grateful to everyone who has visited this site and for the comments. Thank you for taking time out to visit.

I got Artist of the year nominations for the Future Awards coming up January, 2008 and I am honoured and grateful to God that people out there are taking notice of our work.

The various departments of this site (excluding the mural and footwear pages which will be updated later) have been given a lift , the works are a mix of new stuff and works from the archives. Be sure to check out our addition to the downloads page : the fallen warrior lady shown below

A friend of mine Segun Orimolade the brain behind Autograph Apparel has finally gotten a presence on the web (www.autographapparel.net) for his apparel business. Segun is a ton of inspiration for me on the business and design tip and I am happy he has gotten live on the triple www. I urge you all to show www.autographapparel.com some love.

Lastly, Will Hudson and Alex Bec, the designers behind the art annual 'If you could', are tackling a new project for Christmas. It involves a Santa's grotto in the Navy Room of Somerset House in London. They're calling for drawings of what people like us want for Christmas to decorate the grotto. If you have two minutes, draw what you'd like to receive and email it to: will@ifyoucould.co.uk.

Notice gotten from Computer Arts website ( www.computerarts.co.uk)

It is a fun project apt for the season and I reckon you don't have to be a pro to send an entry in.

Enjoy navigating our site. Thanks

hello. thank you for taking time out to visit our site. I decided to update the appearance of our site using two key elements as guides: functionality and simplicity.

some new work has also been thrown into the various disciplines we are passionate about. It's a mix of some old work that has never been published and some recently done work. One of the works close to our heart, are the tee designs for the one man army clothing line established in commemoration of our friend Fleet Militant .
